I'm starting to get acquainted with seo. The first simple step: working with Google. In the search, everything is indexed and the site is located, but for some reason the description of the page is not taken from the meta description, but is taken from the content of the site. Actually I made the most primitive template in a few minutes and wrote down the description that best fit the content of the site in the meta description. Probably did something wrong and made some mistake.

Here is the meta tag:

<meta name="description" content="Real gangsta shop is a site for real gangsters">

But the site itself.

ps: I know that the content of the site is idiotic;)

  • description and keywords have been ignored by search engines for many years precisely because of SEO - they wrote trash for promotion. Just do non-idiot content;) - andreymal
  • It turns out that these tags do not make sense at all. - halfPeiceOfGangsta
  • Although, when I google the name of one of my sites, Google does highlight the description for the main page. But here's other cases of the influence of the description, I do not remember - andreymal
  • Apparently the search engines themselves determine the compliance of meta tags with content. And, apparently, not very successfully. - halfPeiceOfGangsta
  • You can also try to assume that the description is low priority. Here you have a <section> semantic tag on the page - perhaps Google thinks that its content is more important than the description content (but I'm not a real SEO user, I just assume) - andreymal

Google quite definitely speaks about the meta description in the Search Engine Optimization for Beginners Guide :

Use description meta tags

A description meta tag on a page helps Google and other search engines understand its content.

and further:

Benefits of meta description tags

Description meta tags are important because Google can use them as a description of your pages. Google can also choose as a description a fragment of the visible text of the page if it matches the search query. It is recommended that you add meta description tags to all pages in case Google cannot find an excerpt of text that matches the search query.

In your case, Google’s refusal of your meta description may mean that this description does not correspond to the main content of the web page. Maybe there should be something like the following: " The online shopping for real gangsters. You can buy it here ."

  • I will definitely try to experiment with the text content of sites and various descriptions. Most likely, yes, Google does not consider the description appropriate for the content of the site. - halfPeiceOfGangsta
