There was a problem with vsftpd on ubuntu 18.04. Not so long ago I used it and it worked stably, and then when connected, it gives the error "500 OOPS: vsftpd: refusing to run with the writable root inside chroot ()" and it was during the connection and not the authorization.

The log is empty. Loaded fine.

  • When connecting to a clean vsftpd (Without configuration), the same error is MrSkoper
  • Can reinstall ubuntu 25 times? If that last time he reinstalled the work, and the reinstallation was for another reason - MrSkoper

You can bypass the check by setting the flag:

echo 'allow_writeable_chroot=YES' >> /etc/vsftpd/vsftpd.conf

and restart the service

 systemctl restart vsftpd
  • Thanks, but I already tried it - MrSkoper
