tell me, if the site is hosted on a hosting, for example hetzner and has IP 5.8.67.13 (IP is fictional), the traffic is proxied through cloudflare (as I understand it, because the IP is already changing to 104.28.2.131, the CloudFlare organization is in WHOIS) where and with what values need to register PTR (RDNS) record? I registered in cloudflare 131.2.28.104.in-addr.arpa site.ru , it did not bring any effect. The hoster has an entry for 5.8.67.13 site.ru in the RDNS

  • And let me ask you why PTR? - andreymal
  • @andreymal to deliver the same mail - DaemonHK
  • @DaemonHK mail is not sent via cloudflare, so most likely it does not - andreymal
  • @DaemonHK Well, in any case, SPF, DKIM and DMARC are important for mail, and PTR is a minor thing - andreymal
  • @andreymal however some services wrap letters back without her - DaemonHK

Most likely, the question arose due to the need to send e-mails from your server.

  1. if for sending messages you use some other server as a repeater (the so-called “ smarthost ”), then there is no point in worrying about the presence and correctness of the rdns record .
  2. if your server sends messages by itself, then the rdns-record, of course, must be registered for the ip-address from which the messages will be sent.
