There is a leased dedicated server with one SSD for 512GB running Ubuntu 16.04. I have been renting for about six months. The load on the disk is constant. Not a moment's peace. Hoster when installing said that most likely the disk is new.

How, without deleting data and stopping running processes, check the disk for bad sectors?

How do you see from the results of the check that the disc is desirable to change?

  • on ssd there can be no bad sectors in work, the supply of good ones can only end, there is a smartctl to check - Pavel Gridin
  • ssd is checked only by proprietary utilities from the manufacturer, which are usually available only under Windows. Will die, will not die - it does not matter at all if you make backups. If you do not - I sincerely feel sorry for you. - don Rumata
  • @PavelGridin, smart is not an indicator. And even more so on ssd. - don Rumata
