I can say that such a menu can be made even without JS, on pure CSS / HTML, using :hover .
Look here . Do this in a similar way, changing the orientation to horizontal / vertical. This method is more difficult, and even faster in terms of speed of execution. Even the animation can be implemented using css3 animation .
