.RU domain zone shrank by 9%, .РФ - by 12%
For the first time in several years, the Coordination Center for the national domain of the Internet has recorded a decrease in the number of domains in the Russian national zones .RU and .РФ in annual terms.
Here are the figures from the statistical reports for December 2017 and 2018, as well as at the present moment (01/22/2019, 00:00 GMT):
As you can see, the dynamics remains negative in the coming year. Over the past year, the number of domains in the .RU zone decreased by 6.6%, and in the zone of the Russian Federation - by 9%.
It is curious that in November 2015 the registration of the five millionth domain took place. The owner was solemnly awarded at the Runet Prize ceremony. But if the fall continues at this rate, then in the future the ceremony will have to be repeated.
At the same time, experts note that in previous years the national domain zone was among the most actively growing. From 2010 to 2015, it increased from 3 to 5 million registrations, and as of May 2017, there were 5,531,882, plus 898,862 domains. RF. Thus, in less than two years, the .RU domain zone shrank by about 9.5%, and .РФ - by 11.9%.
Against the background of the success of the national domain zone, the Coordination Center raised the cost of registration and renewal by 72%. Around that moment, the decline began.
Price increases are only one of the reasons why the exodus from the national domain zones began. Other reasons could be the emergence of more than 1,000 new top-level domains (someone decided to migrate there), as well as the tightening of regulation in runet.
